Kincannon & Reed Search Process
The rigorous Kincannon & Reed process can be divided into three major phases. Throughout each phase, you will receive personalized attention and insight including frequent communication and exceptional documentation and deliverables.
Phase One: Research and Outreach
Beginning with the initial meeting with your stakeholders, we strive to identify not only the demands, qualifications, expectations, and responsibilities of the position to be filled – we also dig deep to define your longer-term goals, organizational structure, and culture. Because of their leadership experience in the food, agribusiness, life sciences, and bioproducts sectors, our principals will quickly grasp your needs and business drivers. They can offer you tremendous insight into the profile of your ideal candidate.
- Understand the opportunity, role, responsibilities, profile, and cultural fit
- Define the search strategy with KR team
- Research to identify prospective candidates
- Begin outreach
- Engagement letter
- Search profile
- CVs of initial group of interested potential candidates
- Calibration call to ensure KR team is on track
Following the initial meeting, your Kincannon & Reed principal develops a search profile. The entire team defines the research strategy to ensure a broad, deep, and thorough list of sources and potential candidates to fill the funnel. Then outreach calls begin; we make those calls informative, personal, and work to build our network of contacts with referrals. Two to three weeks after the start of the engagement, it is our practice to schedule a “calibration call” with you to present an initial group of interested individuals. This call confirms that you think we are on the right track and enables us to make any adjustments to the search strategy early in the process. In this phase, and every phase, confidentiality is an absolute necessity.
Phase Two: Qualify Best Candidates
Our goal is not to bring you a single qualified candidate – we want to give you a difficult choice among a pool of well-qualified, diverse, and intriguing candidates. The second step of candidate qualification is the key to this result. Our principals are highly skilled at connecting with sources and candidates to discuss and generate interest in your opportunity. The combination of our firm’s reputation, individual and collective experience base, and our professional network ensures that our calls will be taken and messages will be returned. Many search firms claim this level of access and influence; Kincannon & Reed delivers.
- Continue outreach to potential candidates
- Profile and present qualified, interested candidates
- Conduct in-depth interviews with candidates you select
- Candidate Profiles and CVs
- (presented biweekly in search review calls)
- In-depth interview notes
- Slate selection
After identifying interested potential candidates, we closely examine their background and probe for relevant examples of how they have succeeded in the past against your key search criteria. You will receive a profile of each qualified candidate in addition to a CV. Later, for those individuals you select, you will receive detailed interview notes that go beyond listing capabilities to let you “hear the voice” of the candidate. The end result of this phase is your selection of a slate of finalists.
Phase Three: Negotiate Offer
Closing the deal smoothly with your chosen candidate makes all the difference to a successful engagement. Since your Kincannon & Reed principal builds a relationship with the chosen candidate throughout the search process, we can effectively serve as a trusted advisor and problem solver to all parties during final negotiations.
- Assist in structuring a competitive offer
- Present offer and assist in negotiations
- Prepare reference report for the selected finalist
- Degree verification
- Reference report
- Signed employment offer
