When this leading green agribusiness and food company needed to fill a position for a key strategic director, the organization turned to Kincannon & Reed. Their recently appointed CEO had a vision for infusing new energy and focus throughout the management team, but the size of the organization made turning the ship a major challenge — and the strategic hire we assisted with was just the first step. Although they had worked with other search firms in the past, they were attracted by the global reach of Kincannon & Reed and our deep understanding their industry and strategic concerns.
One of the keys to our success was that fact that our principals and key individuals on our research team had first-hand experience — not only in the industry in general, but also in the functional roles of the positions themselves. This background gave us unique insights into the drivers and culture of the organization, which we built on by conducting frank and comprehensive discussions with the CEO about his vision and preferences. We learned later that one of the most valuable services we performed was initiating a conference call involving the CEO, our principals and key members of our search team, who shared candid assessments regarding the relative strengths of each candidate we identified.
This search went so well that within the two following years, the client asked us to conduct additional searches for several other key management positions, including new leaders of its Canadian and U.S. business units and each of its major trade lines. During the course of these searches, the client came to regard Kincannon & Reed as a true strategic partner; as an indicator of this trust, we ultimately were asked to conduct a candidate search for the organization’s new CFO.
Our client has expressed great satisfaction with the process and the results, and has observed that all of the hires with which we assisted are in place and performing up to expectations and beyond.
