A growing, innovative AgBiotech company seeks a Head of Business Development/Marketing, Food Value Chain

Kincannon & Reed has been retained by a biotechnology company, to recruit a Head of Business Development, Food Value Chain, who will identify, investigate, analyze, and prioritize opportunities to partner with leading CPG brands and food ingredient companies, large grocers, and food distributors seeking healthier, traceable plant products. Reporting to the COO, the Head of Business Development, Food Value Chain, will be accountable to establish and manage these alliances and create long-term value for the Company and its partners.

The ideal candidate will have the strategic vision, results-orientation, and food industry experience to expand the Company’s leadership position in a new, consumer-centric industry. S/he will aspire to join a dynamic team focused on bringing biotechnology innovation to food products across multiple categories.

The Position
Working in close collaboration with an energetic, entrepreneurial senior leadership team, the selected candidate for this new position of Head of Business Development, Food Value Chain, will develop, refine, and implement the overall commercialization strategy for the Company’s products and solutions. More specifically, he/she will be responsible for:

  • Developing a strategy for creating demand “down the value chain” with CPG companies and/or major food retailers
  • Articulating and selling the value and benefits of the Company’s current solutions and future discoveries
  • Identifying, investigating, & prioritizing opportunities to partner with leading CPG brands, food ingredient companies, large grocers, and food distributors seeking healthier, traceable plant products
  • Creating awareness of the value proposition of the company’s biological products among those target CPG/retail companies
  • Establishing, negotiating, cultivating, and managing partnerships to create long-term value for the Company
  • Identifying, investigating, analyzing, and developing new opportunities for strategic fit

Candidate Profile
The Head of Business Development, Food Value Chain must be a driven entrepreneur with an innovative mindset and a good understanding of the demands and challenges of pioneering new products, partners, and category segments within the food value chain.  The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

Knowledge and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in external-facing roles involving partner/customer acquisition, development, negotiation, and execution of agreements
  • Experience with CPG and/or food industry/value chain
  • Knowledge of the inter-connectivity between agribusiness and the food industry combined with a strong consumer mindset and track record of developing value-added products and solutions
  • Understanding of consumer preferences and issues around sustainability and food across the value chain
  • An understanding of innovative technologies and food-agricultural applications that address important health and sustainability opportunities
  • Bachelor’s in business, economics, agribusiness, or related discipline; MBA a plus
